About the Inn is a site devoted to helping innkeepers of Bed & Breakfasts, Inns and smaller lodging properties with technology issues they may encounter in the innkeeping industry.
Scott Thomas is an innkeeper (with his wife, Ruth, the owner of Brewster House Bed & Breakfast in Freeport, Maine). Prior to purchasing Brewster House he was a consultant and manager in the technical and education divisions of Oracle Corporation’s Billing and Revenue Management software (BRM, formerly Portal Software). This high-end billing and revenue management software is used by telephone companies and large internet service providers worldwide. Scott has also been working with web design, search engine optimization and the like since the early days of the internet in the early to mid-1990′s, and is a frequent speaker on social media, guest management software, internet marketing and reputation management.
Scott’s software experience with Oracle provides an excellent background for evaluating the much smaller property management systems used for lodging properties. Many other innkeepers and lodging professionals have suggested that we should offer paid consulting services in these areas. However, being keenly aware of the limited resources innkeepers of small properties have available, we chose to make some of the same information available through About the Inn so that innkeepers can do these things for themselves. For those who need to have more in-depth information, or who prefer to have the work performed on their behalf, our membership site will provide greater depth of information on a subscription basis, or individual consulting is also available.
